Independence Square Foundation

Kingston

The Independence Square Kingston facility opened in 1993. It is a collaborative effort that supports the necessary interaction among patients, health care providers, researchers and students in-training. The success of this facility was evident within a few years of its inception, when it reached full capacity. The Foundation undertook plans to construct 25,000 sq. ft. of additional space. Upon its completion in December of 2008, this new space became home to the University of Rhode Island Kinesiology Program, and URI’s Center for Wellness, Research and Education. These programs develop strategies and educational approaches to deal with challenges of nutrition, fitness/wellness and exercise, and the national obesity epidemic.
